We've been complaining about the cost of living since we got here. I know some folks might think we are actually exaggerating a bit, so I decided to post this week's grocery shopping pictures to give you an idea.
Here's what US$200 (US DOLLARS) will get you at the grocery store -- approximately 8 - 9 shopping bags. We didn't buy any meat; we did buy two bottles of wine, which cost us about $20.
Compare the cost of mustard - R$20.19 = US$11.77! I know what you're thinking; perhaps it's expensive because of the foreign brand...
Let's look at the local brand: R$4.99 = US$2.91-- HOWEVER, the bottle is 1/3 the size of the one above. The one above is 17.5 ounces whereas the one below is about 6 oz.
